A restaurant that’s been serving east-end Torontonians since 1975 has temporarily shuttered its doors.

Earlier this week, fans of popular Danforth restaurant Sher-e-Punjab took to social media to ask if the well-known hotspot was closed after noticing that they couldn’t place any orders for delivery. Shortly after, the restaurant was marked as temporarily closed on Google.

A restaurant representative with knowledge of the situation confirmed the temporary closure, saying it was due to several factors.

The restaurant, which is in its 50th year, is known for serving a wide range of Indian dishes, including butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, channa masala, paneer tikka, spicy lamb chops, biriyani, roti and more.

While Sher-e-Punjab is not open for business, the Auld Spot Pub, which has been operated by Sher-e-Punjab owner Jaspal Singh since 2022, is still serving customers.

The pub, which boasts a memorable, European-style interior and stylish lighting, offers fresh-shucked oysters, jerk chicken tacos, baby back ribs, five-cheese baked macaroni and more.

The pub is located next to Sher-e-Punjab, on Danforth near Logan Avenue.

While the Sher-e-Punjab representative said the closure is temporary, they were not able to provide an exact reopening date.
