A South Korean chain famous for its katsu has been expanding rapidly in and around Toronto, and is now opening a Waterloo location.

Brown Donkatsu has origins in Korea that stretch back to 1986, and they’re named for their signature dish, brown katsu. It’s a dish of meat breaded with freshly made panko and smothered in their secret sauce.

They also serve all kinds of other styles of katsu dishes like carbonara katsu, curry katsu, hot and spicy cheese katsu, snow cheese katsu topped with finely shredded cheese, cheese bomb katsu stuffed with melted mozzarella and cheese stick katsu, which is a sliced pork cutlet filled with mozzarella.

Brown Donkatsu already has locations in Markham, North York and downtown on Dundas Street West. The brand launched in Canada in 2016 with their first store opening in Markham.

For the grand opening of their new Waterloo location, Brown Donkatsu is having a walk-in takeout special where you can buy one katsu dish and get the second for 50 per cent off.

Brown Donkatsu is opening in Waterloo at 150 University Ave. W. on June 5.
