A beloved local celebrity chef is trading his apron for a microphone for one night only in Toronto.
In a post to Instagram, celebrity chef Matty Matheson, who got his start in Toronto and is best known for his cookbooks and the TV series The Bear, announced that he will be bringing his hardcore band — known as Pig Pen — to the local stage next month.
Matheson detailed in the post that the act is the byproduct of himself and a selection of musicians who recorded an album a few years ago.
Despite the good times, they have never formally performed as an ensemble — until now.
“A FEW OLD FRIENDS GOT TOGETHER A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WROTE AND RECORDED 10 SONGS OVER 2 DAYS. WE JUST WANTED TO HANG OUT AND SEE WHAT’S UP. THIS IS OUR BAND. WE ARE PIGPEN,” stated Matheson enthusiastically in his post to Instagram.
Pig Pen — alongside several other hardcore acts — is scheduled to play the local stage at the Toronto punk-rock institution Sneaky Dee’s on April 25, 2025.

The show is part of the ongoing event series by Not Dead Yet, a booking agency that specializes in highlighting Toronto’s punk and hardcore scene.
For those seeing this and scrambling to get tickets, we have some bad news, as the show sold out hours after the announcement.
However, those still interested can still grab a spot on the digital waitlist for potential ticket openings.
