A huge resort chain with hotels around the world is opening their first ever Canadian location in Toronto.
Riu should be opening the Hotel Riu Plaza Toronto this year. The brand operates almost 100 hotels in over 20 countries worldwide.
Riu is named for the founding family that opened their first hotel in Mallorca, Spain all the way back in 1953.
Over the course of their long history, Riu went on to open their first international hotels in the 1990s, and started up their Plaza brand in the 2010s, which the Toronto hotel will be a part of. In the late 2010s, they opened their first hotels in New York, Asia and Spain.
The new Riu in Toronto will be located in the heart of the Entertainment District, near the Rogers Centre, CN Tower and Princess of Wales Theatre. The hotel will have over 350 rooms, a restaurant, a lobby bar, a meeting room, a 24-hour gym and buffet breakfast.
Toronto’s Riu hotel located at 30 Widmer St. should be opening late 2025.
