A Montreal plant-based sushi restaurant will soon be opening their first ever Toronto location.

Sushi Momo has two locations in Montreal: a dine-in spot on Rue Saint-Denis and a takeout-only “Sushi Komomo” location on Avenue des Pins.

The restaurant serves an impressive array of futomaki, maki tempura and krispy rice as well as an omakase menu, all highlighting vegetables. Think rolls with oba leaf, inari tofu, mango, cucumber, Japanese basil curry and yuzu-mango emulsion or a mushroom tartare with shiba zuke, avocado, truffle emulsion and teriyaki sauce served with taro chips.

They do serve sashimi dishes, but you’ll find just a few of them tucked away in the corner of the menu. The food is also complemented by a selection of thoughtful cocktails and mocktails.

Sushi Momo is the brainchild of Christian Ventura, a well-known plant-based chef and restaurant owner who’s also behind restaurants Bloom Sushi, Casa Kaizen, Nopalito and Bvrger.

Signage is now up for the new Sushi Momo location in Toronto at 1122 Queen St. W. where another plant-based restaurant, Hello 123, used to be.

The Toronto location of Sushi Momo does not yet have a fixed opening date but should be opening during the summer.
