Toronto’s latest space for all kinds of new experiences and events is at it again with a new farmers’ market.

YZD has been the setting for public skating with a holiday market and a drive-in movie theatre, and now they’re opening a totally new farmers’ market on the grounds. YZD is the 370-acre former Downsview airport area in Toronto that’s being redeveloped into housing, shops and offices.

The farmers’ market won’t just have vendors selling produce, artisanal crafts, local brews and ready-made food. There will also be interactive art installations, live music and classes like honey making and Indigenous gardening.

They’re currently accepting applications from vendors for the 2025 season.

“Supporting the local Downsview community with a new and exciting farmers’ market is one of several ways we’re transforming and bringing this vast site to life,” said Alana Mercury, director, Programming and Placemaking at Northcrest Developments, in a press release.

“Through our numerous engagements over the past years with nearby residents and stakeholders, we’ve heard how important it is that we help support local businesses and expand access to fresh, Ontario-grown produce. We’re thrilled to partner with a diverse range of amazing farmers, businesses and artisans to help fill this need in the months ahead.”

“The YZD Farmers’ Market is a celebration of the passionate farmers and entrepreneurs who shape the fabric of the surrounding community,” said Lori Beazer, YZD market manager. “We’re thrilled to be co-creating a shared space that supports healthy eating in the Downsview community while highlighting the rich cultural history this area has to offer.”

The new farmers’ market at YZD is slated to run every Saturday from June 14 to Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
