A secretive new burger spot just opened upstairs at one of Toronto’s most well-known bars and music venues.

The upper level at Monarch Tavern is now home to Bindi’s Burgers. It may be Toronto’s newest smash burger place, but it’s not like all the others.

Bindi’s has an Indian twist that makes it a little different from other burger restaurants. They started out doing pop-ups last summer, but now they’re back with a vengeance with a home at Monarch.

The Bindi Burger is a different take on a smash burger made with not only beef but lamb as well. It’s served “Oklahoma style” which usually implies griddled onions, and it’s topped with tomato relish, a secret sauce, mint and cilantro.

They also make a veggie version of the Bindi Burger with Impossible protein, a Go West Burger with cheese, secret sauce and lettuce, and a spicy chicken sandwich with tandoori-spiced four-ounce chicken thighs, spicy aioli, marinated red onions, mint and cilantro. All sandwiches can be made doubles, and all meat is halal.

There’s even a four-ounce Little Babu Burger with a beef and lamb patty, cheese and no onions or sauces.

As for sides, they’ve got shoestring fries dusted with a house spice mix and served with spicy ketchup, and Magic Masala chips served with raita for a play on chips and dip. Wash everything down with a mango lassi or dairy-free almond mango lassi.

“Born from a love of food and a late night conversation with friends about an Indian burger joint, Bindi’s Burgers is where fun meets flavour,” reads the Bindi’s site. “We’re on a mission to create the perfect bite, blending Western classics with Indian spice magic.”

Bindi’s Burgers is now open upstairs at the Monarch Tavern at 12 Clinton St. Take care to note they’re currently open with hours from Thursday to Saturday from around 5 p.m. to midnight.
