Restaurants close and open in Toronto all the time, but only once in a while is a closed restaurant replaced with the exact same type of restaurant.

Where Mexican restaurant Casa Mezcal once stood, a new restaurant called Tulum that’s also Mexican has opened in its place.

The offerings seem to be along relatively similar lines: Mexican food and cocktails with a side of fun and night life.

Typical Mexican starters include guacamole, aguachile, choriqueso, empanadas and nachos. Options for a selection of tacos are rib eye, al pastor, barbacha, Baja fish and jicama. They’re also serving mains like chicken mole and desserts that include options such as corn cake with a horchata foam.

A tight selection of cocktails includes takes on a margarita and pina colada, as well as options like the Paradise with tequila, coconut liqueur, pineapple, passion fruit and lime.

Breakfast, lunch, brunch and a Tulum Time happy hour should be coming soon. Additionally, there’s also an upper level Playa component to the Tulum concept that’s open for late nights.

Tulum is now soft open at 291 King St. W.
