Those seeking Jordanian food in Toronto are getting a new spot for the cuisine this week.

Nashmi is a term in Jordanian dialect that loosely refers to the brave, courageous and hospitable spirit of Jordanians. This makes a suitable name for a restaurant offering a taste of Jordan’s culture.

The restaurant will serve classic favourites like chicken shawarma plates and shawarma saj wraps, as well as some less commonly available items like falafel or beef “rocket” sandwiches on buns, and chicken or beef nashmi buns, which appear to be their own creation that looks similar to areyes.

Nashmi is part of Toronto’s outdoor Food Alley, a collection of global food stalls gathered together in an old alleyway space. You can also find other foods like pizza, burgers and desserts there.

For their grand opening, they’re offering a special deal on their signature shawarma for $5.

Nashmi at the Food Alley at 615 Queen St. W. is opening on April 5.
