Toronto is home to some truly excellent Korean food, and now we have one more spot to feast.
Unnie is the newest addition to Toronto’s Korean food scene, and while they don’t have much of an online presence, it seems they’re serving up bold flavours. Unnie is usually a term of respect for an older sister or female.
The restaurant serves a variety of anju, a style of cuisine consumed alongside alcohol that can include an eclectic selection of items from main dishes to side dishes. The kind of alcohol usually consumed with this type of food is the popular traditional Korean beverage soju.
Unnie’s menu features some special anju, which is basically a range of Korean hot pot dishes including styles with beef shank or beef intestine, or tofu, kimchi, pork belly and dumplings. As for lighter anju, they’ve got stir-fried beef or squid, Korean beef pancakes, deep-fried shrimp and bibimbap.
They also serve a range of noodle dishes, including tuumba pasta with a gochugaru-based cream sauce, shrimp, mushroom and onion, and something they call a “hangover cure pasta” with a gochugaru tomato sauce, shrimp, squid and mussels.
Unnie at 4852 Yonge St. is now open.
