Toronto doesn’t have too many spots where you can experience traditional Thai boat noodles, but one more just opened in the city.
Thai boat noodles traditionally contain ingredients like pork, beef, pickled bean curd, dark soy sauce, pig or cow blood and lots of spices, and can be served with meatballs and pig’s liver. The dish got its name from the way it’s typically served from boats in the canals of Bangkok, where it’s prepared by a single merchant doing everything themselves on the boat.
555 Boat Noodles soft opened at the beginning of the month, and is serving up their version of boat noodles along with many other fun Thai dishes.
Their boat noodles are made with garlic, Chinese broccoli and coriander, and options for protein include braised beef, pork, braised pork or beef.
Other noodle soups on the menu are lemon pork, pork noodle, tom yum seafood and yentafo, which is made with shrimp, squid, mussels, shrimp balls, fish balls, shrimp wontons, bean sprouts and coriander. There’s also a “supreme version” of the yentafo that comes with peanuts. Optons for noodles are wonton noodles, rice noodles or vermicelli.
555 Boat Noodles also serves appetizers like steamed meatballs and fried wontons, and rice dishes with beef or pork.
Wash everything down with a Thai iced tea, chrysanthemum juice or pandan juice, and cap off your meal with a dessert like coconut custard or mango sticky rice.
The look of the restaurant is inspired by the vibrancy of a canal market with lots of colour inside and out, including colourful window panes and shutters.
555 Boat Noodles is now soft open at 2 Grosvenor St.
