There are always lots of funky and creative restaurants popping up in Toronto, and a brand spanking new one just opened its doors.

Those strolling around the Ossington area may have noticed a local laundromat get a makeover with a new bright green facade with a stripey awning and neon signage reading Bonito’s. This new restaurant has just flung open its doors.

The restaurant has little to no online presence with a website apparently still in the works, but has posted one photo to Instagram officially saying hi to Toronto.

Bonito is a type of fish, which feels like a very loose indication of what their menu is like. It does appear there is some seafood on the menu, with dishes like ceviche and a half fish being served for dinner.

Their dinner menu also has items like stuffed wings, pomelo salad, charred maitake, chicken mole and tteokbokki de choclo with corn veloute, chili oil, croutons and grana padano.

The restaurant is a project from popular local chef Mikey Kim, who is also behind French restaurant Milou, speakeasy-style project Bar Bowie and now-closed Uncle Mikey’s.

The best part is, Bonito’s is open seven days a week until 2 a.m., with dinner served until 11 p.m. They should also soon be serving lunch and brunch.

Bonito’s is now open at 180 Ossington Ave.
