Tim Hortons has thrown a lot at us recently, from plant-based eggs to burgers and even pizza. But as their 60th anniversary approaches, the coffee chain is doing something big.

Tim Hortons is now coming out with a Tim Hortons musical called The Last Timbit. Yes, you read that right. A musical.

While the show will hopefully have some sort of ballad about an iced capp or the like, it’s not going to be all dancing Timbits. The production will have an actual heartfelt story, based off the true events of a 2010 snowstorm that stranded drivers on a highway east of Sarnia both in their cars and also in a nearby Tim Hortons. A mother and daughter weathering the storm should provide a main storyline.

Marketing firm Gut originally pitched the idea to the chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons, who was surprised but optimistic and wanted to make it happen. That was when Come From Away producer Michael Rubinoff was tapped to help make the grand idea a reality. While it sounds surprising that he might agree to work on a project like this, Tims actually plays a role in Come From Away with scenes taking place at the cafe.

Casey and Diana playwright Nick Green wrote the script, and Anika and Britta Johnson of Life After created the music and lyrics including a song called “What Would You Do For a Timbit?” Stratford and Shaw festival regulars Andrew Broderick and DeAnn deGruijter are part of the cast, along with Broadway stars Kimberly-Ann Truong, Jake Epstein and Chilina Kennedy.

The show will premiere in front of Tims franchisees visiting Toronto and then continue with five shows for the public, with tickets going on sale Friday.

The best part? Timbits will be available at the concession stand.
