More Canadians plan to travel domestically this year and Airbnb has released the top trending spots.
Searches for domestic stays in 2025 are up nearly 20 per cent compared to last year, Airbnb said in a new report.
Several travel companies are reporting similar trends. Flight Centre noted a softening in U.S. travel bookings, and travel search aggregator Skyscanner noted Canadians are looking for trips closer to home.
“Canadians are set on exploring their own backyard,” Airbnb said in their report.
Domestic travel has been steadily rising in recent years. In 2023 alone, Airbnb saw nearly eight million domestic guest arrivals—a record-breaking number, up nearly 30 per cent since 2019.
More Canadians are choosing to stay local to support Canadian hosts and small businesses, the report stated.
Here are some of the top trending domestic destinations on Airbnb this spring:
- Communauté maritime des Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Québec
- Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
