Ajax has received its latest payment from the OLG for its share of revenues from its casino and racetrack.
The town got nearly $1,440,000 for its second-quarter payment on Oct. 18. This brings its annual earnings from the casino up to nearly $3 million for far this year. The first quarter profits came to nearly $1.5 million in July.
Since Casino Ajax opened in 2006, it has raked in more than $105,000,000 for the town. These funds “support important community programs and services and strengthen their local infrastructure with these gaming revenues,” according to Minister of Finance and Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy, “These financial supports help fund the vital programs and services that residents can depend on for their future.”
“These payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site,” the OLG said. Host communities like Ajax, Pickering and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation have received more than $2 billion in these payouts since 1994.
The rest of the profits from the casinos goes back into Ontario at the provincial level.
