Here’s your opportunity to see Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe and learn more about the man behind the children’s television series from those who put together the award-winning documentary.
Written, directed, and produced by Sheridan alumni Robert McCallum, the People’s Choice Documentary Award winner at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival will be appearing at a fall screening series hosted by Oakville Festival of Films and Art and Sheridan College alumni on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Film.ca Cinemas in Oakville.
The move celebrates the life and work of American Ernie Coombs, who went on to become on of the CBC’s most beloved children’s personalities.
The Canadian documentary has earned much praise for going beyond the nostalgia to bring home the importance of raising children with kindness, compassion, inclusion, and empathy.
There will be a full Q&A session following the showing with McCallum, a graduate of the Advanced Television and Film ’06 course at Sheridan’s Oakville campus, and editor and former Sheridan graduate Nathan Shields.
The fall series, which highlights films made by Sheridan graduates, will also be screening In Flames at Flim.ca Cinemas on Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Continuing his work on gender equality, Pakistani-based filmmaker and Sheridan Advanced Television and Film 2010 graduate Anam Abbas produced the story about a woman forced to navigate the random violence of their oppressive, patriarchal society.
The cost of two full passes to each of the three films being screened is $15. Tickets are free for Sheridan Alumni.
