A doughnut shop that sent shockwaves through its community with the announcement of its closure has been saved, and now isn’t closing after all.
“A few weeks ago, we shared the hard reality that Donut Monster would be closing,” reads a post on the shop’s social media signed by Reuben, Heidi and all the staff at Donut Monster.
When they had shared that reality, the shop also shared that there was a possibility of keeping it going under different ownership.
“Along with your words of support came a great interest from people in the community wanting to help Donut Monster live on into the future. As a result of conversations had over the last few weeks we are thrilled to announce that Donut Monster has found a new owner! This means we will NOT be closing! Even better, Donut Monster will be put into very capable hands and our amazing staff will continue to be part of the team, keeping the donuts and milkshakes and coffee you love going strong,” reads the shop’s post.
“The new owners are a partnership between the operators of a beloved community focused small cafe brand from Nova Scotia and Hamilton based individuals with a wealth of experience in the coffee and cafe industry. They are excited to take the reins and carry on right where we are leaving off, to grow the business and build on the foundations we have laid over the last 10 years.”

More details will continue to be shared over the course of the transition, but for now this means Hamilton residents can rest easy knowing they should be able to grab a treat from Donut Monster for a good while longer.
While Donut Monster’s closing post climbed to nearly 8,000 likes on Instagram, the post about staying open even outstripped that with over 9,000 likes from enthusiastic people excited to hear the good news, and nearly 500 comments. Many people commented on what great news this is, and there are many comments from other small businesses cheering them on. Several people commented they had bought doughnuts to freeze, and now wouldn’t have to worry as much about getting their fix.
