Boutique hotel and spa to open in historic building north of Toronto

A boutique hotel and spa opens in one of Canada’s oldest stone and brick buildings next month.
Located at the edge of Forks of the Credit Provincial Park in Caledon’s quaint hamlet of Cataract, The Liberty Inn will officially open on Feb. 6.
The inn features five newly refurbished suites and a private woodland spa. Three suites are designed for couples and two can accommodate up to five guests. The suites include kitchens, living areas and private bedrooms.
The 1855 building was previously the Forks of the Credit Inn before husband and wife duo Bruno Roldan and Jacqui Liberty acquired the property in 2022.
The building housed workers for a local mill and quarry when it first opened in 1855, according to an online history.
It was said to be a speakeasy during prohibition and a general store from the early 1900s until the 1970s. Couple May and Jack Denreyer bought the building in 1958 and operated the store until they decided to convert the building to an inn in the early 1970s. It was the Horseshoe Inn until 1987 and later became the Forks of the Credit Inn.
The new owners have redesigned the inn with modern touches while keeping the historic charm.
“Bringing The Liberty Inn to life has been a labor of love, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible team who poured their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and care into every corner of this historic building,” the owners said on Instagram.
The rooms combine natural wood and stone with soft, calming details.
With a focus on wellness and connection, each room will include a blue and red light therapy mask. The Hawthorne Suite will feature its own in-suite infrared sauna, while other suites will offer steam showers. There are also weighted bathrobes.
Liberty is a potter and the founder of the Caledon-based Soft Fire Ceramics. The Inn features her original work including 10,000 floor tiles, mugs, bowls and plates.
“The Liberty Inn is more than a place to stay—it’s a place to feel inspired. We’ve created an environment where every detail invites guests to pause, reflect, and connect—with themselves, with nature, and with the people they love,” said Roldan and Liberty in a statement.
The Woodland Spa on the property features a sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge—all surrounded by the natural beauty of Caledon. The spa is bookable by the hour for complete privacy.
