A popular local chain of indie cafes is shutting the doors of one of their most popular locations.

Boxcar Social has become synonymous with coffee in Toronto, and has cafe locations across the city. Now, they’ve just announced they’re bidding farewell to one of their beloved locations that started it all.

“It’s with fondness that we say goodbye to a location that allowed us to work with so many inspiring people and in a beautiful location,” Boxcar Social wrote in a post on social media.

Within just a few hours the post garnered almost 500 likes and many comments from people saying how sad the loss of the location is for the community and how much they’ll be missed, and how great it was having them in the neighbourhood.

Boxcar Social is known for their expertly made espresso drinks and other cafe fare, and they also serve alcoholic beverages. They have locations in Summerhill, at Harbourfront and at Waterworks Food Hall as well as a laneway location near Bathurst and College.

The first Boxcar Social opened back in 2014, and after almost 10 years of operation they’re now closing their Riverside location.

The last day for Boxcar Riverside will be Friday, Oct. 11, closing at 5 p.m.
