Just a few years after Carlo’s Bakery broke into the GTA with bakery cafe locations, all their cafes have now suddenly shut down without warning.
Carlo’s is a bakery with origins in Hoboken, New Jersey, rising to fame not only because of the legacy of their family-run business and amazing treats, but also because of the bakery being the subject of reality show Cake Boss.
Carlo’s Bakery first came onto the scene in Toronto and the surrounding areas with “cake ATMs,” basically vending machines serving cake. Not long after that, Carlo’s started opening physical brick and mortar locations of the bakery in the GTA.
The brand opened up a bakery cafe in Port Credit, as well as another in Yorkville. Now, both locations have abruptly closed down.
The last post on the Canadian Instagram account for Carlo’s Bakery is from February 2024, and there has been no official public announcement about the closure of the cafes. The Port Credit location had shut down once before for renovations that saw the cafe reopen in combination with a new restaurant concept serving Italian food called Lago Pizza & Pasta Bar.
Now, it appears Lago is staying open at the same address where Carlo’s Bakery used to be at 167 Lakeshore Rd. W., with their up-to-date Instagram account still operating.
Although the physical Carlo’s bakery cafes have closed, cake ATMs remain open in the GTA.
A representative for Carlo’s Bakery confirmed with YourCityWithIN.com that the GTA cafe locations have all closed.
