Runners will be taking over the streets of Burlington in March for one of Ontario’s oldest races.

Sunday, March 3 is the date for the Chilly Half Marathon, an event that attracts participants both locally and from from abroad and helps to raise funds for Joseph Brant Hospital.

This year a goal of $20,000 has been set which will add to the total of $400,000 that has been raised over the years.

Started in 1997, the race, despite the name, is considered a warm-up race for competitive runners who have their sights set on qualifying for larger marathons.

This year the race starts at 10:05 a.m. from Burlington City Hall and will take runners along Lakeshore Rd. and Burloack Dr. and wind its way to to City Hall and the finish line.

More than 3,000 participants are expected including organized running groups that often put members to the running test for the very first time.

Shuttle buses will be provided throughout the day to get runners to the starting line and friends and family members of the participants are encouraged to line the route to cheer and encourage the racers.

Space to race is limited and organizers encourage anyone interested in participating to register well in advance of the race.
