A coffee shop that’s been in business for nearly 10 years in Hamilton has announced they’ll soon be closing their doors.

Ark & Anchor is run by partners Patrick Guilbault and Yigi Chang, who have both also spent time in Toronto. Guilbault managed a shop on Dundas West and Chang attended OCAD.

“Ark & Anchor was established in the fall of 2015 by partners Patrick Guilbault and Yigi Chang, who quickly made themselves well known faces in the community,” reads the cafe’s website.

The pair announced the upcoming closure of Ark & Anchor in an emotional post on social media.

“This decision has been a long time coming, but we are confident it is the right choice for us. Thank you to all our amazing staff, wonderful regulars, and the community of small business owners we have had the privilege of getting to know,” reads the announcement.

“As a personal ask from Patrick and Yigi, please respect the staff’s privacy during this change. Folks will talk about their future if they want to, but let them bring it up. Over the coming weeks, please be patient with us and thanks in advance for your understanding. Expect things to shift and change as we navigate our way through this calm ending.”

The post has nearly 700 likes and over 100 comments on Instagram. Commenters have called Ark & Anchor “a safe space,” “my life blood,” “a pivotal part of us feeling more at home,” and “a perfect space full of true thoughtfulness, delicious food, and excellent coffee.” People also praise the cafe’s halloumi twists in the comments.
