CLOSURE: A popular ice cream shop is closing one of its locations in Toronto

An ice cream shop that’s one of the most creative and most beloved in Toronto has announced they’re closing a location.
Ruru Baked is known for imaginative ice cream flavours that rotate frequently like carrot cake, condensed milk red bean, everything bagel, chrysanthemum, burnt honey cornbread, maple marshmallow and durian.
The ice cream business opened up a second location at Pacific Mall, but sadly that location is now shutting down.
“Unfortunately, with our lease ending and our landlord wanting to raise the rent significantly we decided the sales at this location can’t sustain that increase. While this chapter is coming to a close, we’re excited for what’s next,” reads a social media post from Ruru Baked.
“We want to extend a huge THANK YOU to all our amazing customers who have supported us here. Your love and loyalty mean the world to us, and this isn’t goodbye—it’s just the beginning of a new adventure.”

However, not all is lost for those who are farther from Ruru’s original location on Lansdowne, as that new adventure is taking things mobile.
While the Pacific Mall location may be closing, ice cream fans can console themselves with the knowledge that Ruru Baked is launching an ice cream truck.

The truck should be launching in the spring, journeying across as many Toronto neighbourhoods as possible and also doing events.
The last day for Ruru Baked at Pacific Mall will be March 23.
