A restaurant for healthy plant-based food has closed in Toronto, but it’s already being replaced by something else.

District Eatery was a healthy but flashy restaurant serving wholesome eats alongside boozy cocktails, with the concept that eating good ingredients could still be fun and the motto “clean eating, dirty drinking.” They had lots of vegan and gluten-free options on their menu.

While the concept of balance has grown in popularity, unfortunately District Eatery found itself having to shut down in February. However, owner Jesse Warfield still has possession of the space and immediately started breaking ground on a new concept in the same space.

“We were really the first place where you could get a large selection of healthy bowls or vegan food and actually order a beer or spike a kombucha. Prior to that if you wanted to go out for healthy food you needed to order a kale juice with your meal,” Warfield tells YourCityWithIN.com.

“The space itself is a great space and I was looking for something for a new partnership. We of course will still have the rooftop patio that’s grandfathered in. ”

The new partnership will be with Michelin-starred Thai chef Warakorn Suriyawong, also known as Chef Tempo. He has years of experience in Thailand and Dubai and was once the chef at Michelin-recommended Song by Kin Kao in Vancouver.

He’ll be heading up the new restaurant where District Eatery used to be called Same Same, which will serve “a take on Thai cuisine” that’s “Thai but different” according to Warfield.

Same Same at 303 King St. W. should be opening around April.
