A local flower store has announced that they have now shut down after more than half a century in business.

Guy Young Flower Shop took to social media to announce that they had closed.

The family that ran the store wrote a short but sweet message announcing their closure, signed by the Youngs.

“After 60 wonderful years of serving our cherished community, we are announcing the closure of our store as we begin our retirement,” reads the message.

“Thank you for your support and kindness throughout the years. We are incredibly honoured and grateful for the memories and relationships that were built with each of you.”

Nearly 200 people have engaged with the message posted on Facebook, with several writing comments to share their memories and congratulate the owners on their retirement.

“I grew up in the neighbourhood and have wonderful memories of visiting the shop with my mother and buying flowers and plants with her,” one person commented. “My sister and I continued to visit after she passed and we will miss this neighborhood treasure. Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for the lovely plants, flowers and memories.”

“Your beautiful store will be missed and we will miss the master of flowers! He is such a warm soul,” another person said. “Enjoy your retirement, it is well deserved.”

The last day for Guy Young Flower Shop was Dec. 31.
