A bar that’s been in business for multiple decades in Toronto just suddenly announced that they were shutting down.

Sloppy Joe’s is a neighbourhood bar that’s known for their chicken wings and casual atmosphere. The family-owned restaurant has been in business for many years.

They didn’t post much on social media, with their last posts prior to this year posted several years ago. Now, they’ve come back online to make their closing announcement on social media and their website, signed by Larry and Pete.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of Sloppy Joe’s,” reads the announcement.

“Due to a confidentiality agreement, we were unable to share this news earlier, but we wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to you all. Our father opened this business in April of 1971, driven by the dream of creating a neighbourhood gathering place that felt like home.”

While it’s a little unclear what the future holds for Sloppy Joe’s, the announcement goes on to say that they’ve found new owners for the space.

“The joy of seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones is something we hold in high regard and will continue to cherish. For two generations, spanning 54 years our family has been truly blessed to watch this place become a sincere reflection of the love and support of the community,” reads the announcement.

“In recent months we have worked tirelessly to find the right individuals to carry forward our family’s vision. While we are stepping away, we are confident the new owners will offer you the same warmth and familiarity you have come to know and love. After 27 wonderful years as Sloppy Joe’s, while we are saddened to close this chapter, we are also excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. This is not goodbye forever, as we will make it a priority to visit our many valued customers and friends.”

Sloppy Joe’s permanently closed on March 3.
