CLOSURE: Book-themed cocktail bar shutting its doors in Toronto
Published December 16, 2024 at 3:30 pm
A cocktail bar with a literary theme has announced they’ll soon be closing down after almost 10 years of operation in Toronto.
Famous Last Words is appropriately named, as it’s not only bookish, but also the name of a classic cocktail. The bar served literary-themed cocktails in a space perfect for curling up with good read, and also held cocktail classes and hosted book clubs and other events.
The bar has taken to social media to announce that they will sadly be closing in the new year, posting the title of a Douglas Adams book: So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

“Every good story needs an ending, so it’s with a heavy heart that we’re announcing the closure of Famous Last Words,” reads the announcement.
“It’s the people more than the space that really make the magic, so a massive thank you goes out to the amazing and dedicated team – past and present – who’ve worked so hard (behind the bar and behind the scenes) to make delicious drinks and create wonderful memories over the past 8 years. I have no idea what the next chapter will look like, but I’m excited to start writing it (maybe literally, who knows?!?).”
Outstanding gift certificates for the bar should be used by Jan. 4, and gift certificates for cocktail classes can be redeemed for cocktails instead.
The last days of service for Famous Last Words will be Jan. 2, 3 and 4, with a farewell party lasting all weekend long.
