A cafe in Toronto recently posted to their social media what we all fear seeing from our favourite local businesses: a simple photo with the words, “It’s long but please read the caption.”

Popular coffee shop Hot Black on Queen West recently posted online letting people know that their cafe space was shutting down, and that the future the business faces in general is uncertain and murky.

“We are currently in a transition to move forward into a next chapter at Hotblack Coffee. Ever since the owner, Jimson passed away, the company has sort of been sailing blind-folded in the middle of the ocean, mainly with legal issues. This to be sorted in the right way, we figured that only choice is to end this chapter once. We hoped this transition to be quietly done but it unfortunately has not settled, and time is almost up,” reads a post on the cafe’s social media signed by operator Momi.

“We still do not know that which hand this beautiful creation will land into, or maybe becoming a completely different entity, but for now, we have to say goodbye (or could be just a little pause?) to you all once.”

The post goes on to say that even if there is not a next chapter for Hot Black, that it would still be great if the staff and customers manage to cross paths again and continue seeing each other in the community.

On Instagram, the post has over 600 likes and almost 100 comments, with lots of people commenting that Hot Black had become a favourite staple in the neighbourhood where lots of memories were made.

The last day for Hot Black was March 30.
