CLOSURE: Cherished Egyptian food spot closes in downtown Toronto

A popular College Street location for Egyptian cuisine shut its doors in downtown Toronto this month.

In a post to Instagram a few weeks ago, Nile River Restaurant indicated that it has promptly shut down operations.

The post went on to thank all community members for their support over Nile’s history in operation.

“Through the joyful celebrations and quieter days, your support, loyalty and kindness lifted us. We are deeply grateful for every meal shared, every smile exchanged and every memory created,” read the farewell post by Nile’s management.

As a result of the announcement, an outpouring of community support has followed, with scores of former customers sharing their experiences in the comment section of the post.

“Thank you for the magical moments shared there, you are all kind, inspiring and an amazing team,” read one comment from an Instagram user.

Based on Nile’s Instagram posts, the location opened in 2021 and managed to provide high-quality cuisine on a take-out basis during the COVID-19 pandemic and eventually became an in-dining neighborhood staple.

No word has been relayed yet on whether or not ownership plans to open a new location in the near future.
