CLOSURE: Iconic brunch restaurant closing after 25 years in Toronto
Published January 20, 2025 at 3:00 pm
A brunch restaurant that’s been in business for a quarter of a century in Toronto has quietly announced they’re shutting down.
Saving Grace on Dundas West is known for their excellent French toast and other brunch fare like pancakes and scrambled eggs.
They infamously don’t take reservations, operating exclusively on a waitlist system. On weekends they’d sometimes draw a small crowd of hungry brunchers clamouring to get in. The space is super cute and cozy once you get in, with a casual vibe that feels like someone invited you over to their house for breakfast.
Their menu is always written on a giant chalkboard, with creative brunch options that go beyond the usual fare like eggy papusas, huevos ahogados and pancakes in flavours like pumpkin and banana coconut with a black sesame paste centre.
Saving Grace didn’t give any specific reasons for the closure or write a long emotional message about it, posting a simple announcement to social media.

“We are closing up shop,” reads the short message. “Thank you to everyone who ever visited us over the 25 years we were open.”
The photo in the announcement post on social media shows a sign reading, “I am overjoyed to be closing. Please don’t be sad.”
The post has almost 750 likes and over 100 comments on Instagram from people saying how bittersweet and sad the news is and how many great memories they have of the restaurant.
So at the very least, it seems that while this may be sad news for the brunch-goers of Toronto, it’s a good thing for the owners. Saving Grace will also be having a month-long yard sale over the course of February and March.
The last day for Saving Grace will be Feb. 15.
