A manga cafe that claimed to be one of the first and only ones in Toronto unfortunately didn’t make it a year at their brick and mortar location.

One-Shot Manga Cafe wanted to be the first manga cafe in Toronto, but it appears that dream didn’t end up lasting long. The cafe stocked lots of manga and served cafe drinks and bubble tea plus casual food options like sandwiches and baked goods.

The cafe made a post to social media announcing their sudden and immediate closure, which garnered hundreds of likes and dozens of comments.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce The One-Shot Manga Café has officially closed. We want to sincerely thank each and every one of you who supported us since we opened our doors 6 months ago,” reads the post.

“Whether you dropped in to chill, ordered on Uber Eats, donated manga volumes, or even just the simple act of engaging us on social media—your support means the world to us. We only wish we could have kept spinning a little longer. But this is not the end—it’s a new beginning. As the saying goes, ‘Fall down seven times, stand up eight.’”

Many of the comments are from people who are sad that they never ended up getting a chance to visit the cafe since it was only open for such a short period of time.

While those people may never get to visit One-Shot in person, all is not lost as they’ll still be operating as a solely online store for books and snacks.

One-Shot announced they had officially closed on Oct. 18.
