A restaurant known for Portuguese food with a fun patio has just announced they’ll be shutting down after 30 years.
Wild Orchid in Hamilton serves Portuguese food, seafood and steak, as well as fish platters that are popular for occasions like Good Friday and Christmas Eve. It’s also a popular spot for watching sports.
They announced about a week ago that they’d be closing their doors soon.
“It is with heavy hearts that, after almost 30 years on James St. North, we announce the closing of Wild Orchid Restaurant,” reads a post on social media.
“We know this is very sad news for many of you—from new friendly faces who recently discovered a favorite spot, to our loyal regulars and friends, some of whom feel like extended family. For you, as well as for us, Wild Orchid has been a second home. Countless memories were made, and lives and milestones were celebrated within these four walls. We are forever grateful to have been part of them. We appreciate you all more than you could possibly know, and we will miss you dearly.”
The post has over 250 likes on Instagram, and also says that the restaurant owners will “take some much-needed downtime and embark on new adventures” when the restaurant closes.
They also say they’re enthusiastic about the future of the space, with “a new and exciting spot that we think will be a great addition to James North—and to Hamilton in general” taking their place.
Dec. 31, 2024 will be the last day of operation for Wild Orchid.
