A restaurant chain known for Filipino food, especially fried chicken, just announced they’ve shut down their GTA location in Vaughan.

Max’s Restaurant has locations all over the Philippines, the Middle East, Canada and the United States, including Alberta, British Columbia, California and even Hawaii. The restaurant’s origins stretch back to 1945, with a humble cook who initially began serving food to GIs. They have a reputation for their fried chicken, but also serve other Filipino classics like lumpia, crispy pata, lechon kawali, chicken adobo and kare-kare.

People in the GTA have been enjoying those dishes from Max’s for the past 14 years, but now they’re going to have to go elsewhere for Filipino fare. The restaurant announced their closure on Facebook.

“With heavy hearts, we announce that we are ending our operations for our beloved restaurant. After 14 incredible years of serving our community, we are closing our doors,” reads the restaurant’s Facebook post.

However, all is not lost: the post also says that Max’s is working on a new location. About a week before the closure announcement, the Facebook page for Max’s Vaughan also made some posts saying that Max’s is opening to franchising in Toronto.

Max’s in Vaughan posted about their closure on Feb. 14, and has not provided any other updates since then. Their Facebook page now reads permanently closed.
