A snack bar has announced that as a new year dawns, they’ll be closing their doors in Hamilton.
Merk Snack bar bills itself as an “everyday” restaurant with the motto “We don’t serve bad things.”
“We offer a tapas rogue menu that rotates seasonally. Chef Mark sources products from local bakeries, markets and farmers personally so that we can offer unique touches and flavours in our dishes,” reads the Merk website.
The restaurant serves a comfort food menu of options with eclectic global influences like Scotch eggs, Korean fried chicken, caprese skewers, dumplings, ceviche, Irish nachos and jerk chicken taquitos. Their menu is rounded out by a selection of creative cocktails and mocktails.
Now, they’ve announced in a social media post that Merk Snack Bar will be closing.

“We made a movie, we had Juno plus award winners in our house, we had an order of ontario recipient in the house, we’ve been on TV. B.A is our Homie. We cooked on a BOAT! We cooked in a FIELD. We made a wedding dinner happen with 4 BBQS and 3 Cottage ovens! Matthew Green is our homie. We are a SAFE PLACE BIKER BAR staffed by the letter community. Fully had our name written in lights several times,” reads the post.
“The universe seems to have other plans for Merk right now. So I gotta listen as much as it sucks and is the hardest decision I’ve had to make so far in my life.”
Merk will be closing its doors at the end of January.
