Do you have a 40-foot tree that could ‘spruce’ up Hamilton’s holiday season?

‘Tis almost that time of year again.

With 76 days until Christmas, the City of Hamilton has set off on a hunt to find this year’s Christmas tree.

Officials are asking residents who plan to cut down a spruce tree on their private property to consider donating it to the city this holiday season.

Annually, three trees are handpicked to grace Gore Park, City Hall and Memorial Square in Dundas.

For a tree to qualify for donation, it must be at least 40 feet (12 metres) tall, positioned in the front yard with easy street access and clear of overhead wires.

The city will facilitate the cutting and transporting of the trees at no cost to the owners, according to Hamilton city staff.

“The city is encouraging those who donate a tree to take advantage of the city’s tree-planting program to replace donated trees with new ones,” officials said.

Residents with suitable trees are asked to call 905-546-2424, ext. 4392 to arrange for the donation.
