DoorDash just gave out grants to several women-lead restaurants in Ontario, and multiple Toronto restaurants were recipients.
The $10,000 grants are intended to “bridge the opportunity gap for women-owned restaurants” and are “designed to champion women chefs and restaurateurs by providing eligible operators with tangible financial support.”
“We’re proud to celebrate and amplify women-owned restaurants throughout the year, as making room at the table for underserved groups fosters lasting change within the culinary industry over time,” said DoorDash Canada general manager Shilpa Arora. “Each of these owners has a unique perspective and experience from growing their business.”

Kanto by Tita Flips
This street food project with multiple locations is known for their traditional Filipino fare like chicken adobo, sisig fries, lechon and bao.
“Before becoming one of Toronto’s first Filipino street food destinations, Tita Flips first started in the Philippines as a family-run business,” said Diona Joyce, owner of Kanto by Tita Flips. “This grant will not only help me grow my business for years to come, but it will also make space for me to continue preserving Filipino culture in Toronto and celebrating the impact that other Canadian women regularly make.”
Loukoumaki x Smashed+
Located in Scarborough, this dual concept business is helmed by CEO Alexia Stergiou, whose family has decades of experience in the hospitality industry.
On the Smashed side you’ll find burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, loaded fries and Greek classics like gyros and souvlaki. Loukoumaki serves loukoumades, or honey donut balls, with various toppings, as well as soft serve, shakes and coffee.
Suma’s Egyptian Grill
East York is home to this restaurant where you can find dishes like pizza with Egyptian toppings, grilled dishes, hawawshi and basterma.
