Brampton is hosting a big party tomorrow to ring in the new year, and everyone is invited.
City of Brampton officials took to social media on Saturday to remind residents that as part of the festivities slated for Sunday afternoon at the City Hall Atrium, a former NHL star and current Professional Women’s Hockey League standout will be available to meet the crowds.
The annual Mayor’s New Year’s Levee runs from 2 to 5 p.m., with a meet-and-greet with Mayor Patrick Brown and city councillors getting things started at 2 p.m.
That will be followed by a free community skate at Gage Park from 4 to 5 p.m.
Former NHL star Eric Lindros, who spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers before finishing with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars, will be on hand to meet people and take part in the skate.
So, too, will Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jocelyne Larocque, who now suits up for the Toronto Torch of the fledgling PWHL.
In a post to X (formerly Twitter) today, Brampton officials said Sunday’s event will kick off 2024, which also happens to be the city’s 50th anniversary.
“Enjoy family fun and a community skate at Gage Park. Meet Hockey Hall of Famer and NHL Top 100 Eric Lindros and Olympic gold medalist and current member of Toronto PWHL team Jocelyne Larocque,” officials said in the post. “Inaugural members of council Terry Miller and Bill Baillie will also be in attendance.”
The meet-and-greet runs from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Brampton City Hall Atrium with a reception followed by the free community skate at Gage Park.
