Public light installations will soon be transforming a Toronto neighbourhood into a glowing winter wonderland.

Don’t let frigid temperatures keep you inside all winter. Instead, embrace the early sunsets with activities that make the darkness magical.

IllumiNite consists of five interactive installations by world-renowned artists scattered around a Toronto neighbourhood. The theme of these installations is Making Connections, celebrating the way art connects people and spaces.

The Tunnel at College Park is a tunnel with a 100-foot beacon of lights and an interactive console. Celestia at Sankofa Square is inspired by the Pleiades myth and consists of seven structures plus sound elements.

Pulse can be found at McGill & Granby Parkette and is inspired by the way trees communicate underground, with the installation reacting to each visitor.

Head to 777 Bay Plaza to find two installations: Crosshatch and Fireside Storytelling.

Crosshatch has two handles that allow you to interact with the installation by creating shifting patterns of light and shadow.

Fireside Storytelling by Nyle Miigizi Johnston is inspired by the Anishinaabek tradition of winter gatherings around the fire and depicts Johnston’s grandfather sharing intergenerational knowledge.

IlumiNite installations can be found in the downtown Yonge area from Feb. 14 to Mar. 2.
