Halton Hills residents who need a prescription for a minor medical issue can soon speak to a pharmacist about treatment.
Today (Oct. 30), Shoppers Drug Mart announced plans to open a Pharmacy Care Clinic in Georgetown at 265 Guelph Street.
The clinic, which is opening following a province-wide initiative that allows pharmacists to treat minor ailments such as pink eye, urinary tract infections, hay fever, acid reflux and more, will offer patients access to a range of pharmacy healthcare services.
According to a news release, the clinics are fully integrated with the pharmacies, which have undergone an extensive redesign. New features include a dedicated counter for prescription processes, secure lockers where customers can pick up prescriptions ordered online, a Care Concierge, child-friendly consultation rooms for families and “Let’s Talk” spaces for counselling.
Pharmacists in Ontario are also able to administer vaccines and other injectable medicines and assist with chronic disease management.
Since the initial expanded scope of practice for pharmacists came into effect in Ontario on Jan. 1, 2023, there have been over 400,000 minor ailments consultations across the province.
Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor will be present at the grand opening event.
The clinic will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Patients can walk in or book an appointment online.
