A cafe known their traditional Greek fare is shutting their doors, but they’ll soon be reopening at a new address not far away from their original location.

Named for one of its central ingredients, Phyllo Cafe specializes in Greek pies in cheese, ham and cheese, and spinach varieties. They also have a “Sweetest Torontonian” cheese pie with feta and ricotta drizzled with honey, as well as a classic bougatsa with custard, cinnamon and icing sugar.

That’s far from all, though: they also serve a wide range of crepes plus Greek yogurt and Greek coffee, and one of their specialties is their epic Poseidon Cheese Boat with lots of gooey, stretchy cheese.

Now, fans of Phyllo Cafe’s Greek food will have to take a break from their faves as the cafe is going on hiatus until they open at their new location.

The cafe is being forced to relocate due to Metrolinx construction.

“It’s been a wonderful 7 years at 1028 Pape Avenue, and we’re saddened to announce that we need to move our cafe to a new location due to Metrolinx taking over. Over the years, we’ve strived to create not just a cafe, but a welcoming space where family and friends can come together and enjoy a cozy atmosphere,” reads a post on social media from Phyllo Cafe.

“We hope that our loyal customers, as well as new ones, will join us at our new location just a few blocks away at Pape and Mortimer. We are trying to have the new Phyllo Cafe up and running ASAP! We will keep you posted for our opening day! Thank you for your continued support!”

Phyllo Cafe is moving to 920 Pape Ave. near Mortimer, just a few blocks away from their old location. An opening date for the new location has not yet been announced, but the cafe has posted to social media that it should be sometime in fall 2024.

The last day for Phyllo Cafe at their current 1028 Pape Ave. location is Aug. 28.
