Huge grocery store officially opens second downtown Toronto location

After much anticipation, a well-known supermarket has officially opened the doors to its second downtown Toronto location.
Yesterday, T&T announced that its Edward Street store is up and running.
“Downtown core friends, TMU friends, this one is for you. T&T’S SECOND DOWNTOWN TORONTO STORE IS NOW OPEN,” operators wrote on social media.
T&T, the largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada, announced last month that its new 31,000-square-foot store was slated to open at 20 Edward Street on Feb. 13.
The new location, first announced in 2023, is steps away from the Eaton Centre, Sankofa Square (formerly known as Yonge and Dundas Square) and Toronto Metropolitan University.
“Located by Yonge-Dundas station, just across the SLC at TMU and the Atrium, this new T&T is going to be so convenient for those long study sessions, for those living in the area, and for those who are simply shopping at the Eaton Centre and want to do a bit of grocery shopping or a quick bite to eat at our street food counter,” the brand wrote on social media.
The store is opened earlier than its initial anticipated opening date of spring 2025.
The store is located in the Panda Condos, a residential building that occupies space that belonged to the World’s Biggest Bookstore until 2014.
In a 2023 news release, T&T said it began planning the upcoming downtown location after getting good feedback on its College and Spadina store.
“We’ve seen such overwhelming demand at our College and Spadina location, we knew the city was ready for more. When deciding on the location of the new store, we knew a large portion of our delivery orders were going to the Yonge and Dundas area, so it was the natural choice,” said Tina Lee, CEO of T&T Supermarkets, in a 2023 statement.
The newest store is the second T&T to feature a street food concept. Alongside traditional grocery offerings, the store offers Chinese-style crepes, Taiwanese-style stuffed rice rolls and popcorn chicken.
