It’s official: Krispy Kreme, the ever-popular doughnut shop with a storied history in Canada, is opening a new location in Hamilton in the not-too-distant future.
Recently, a post on the Hamilton subreddit shared an image from the city’s official website indicating that the construction of a new Krispy Kreme location is forthcoming. The post gave some readers pause, as Krispy Kreme was incorrectly spelled as “Krispy Creme.”
Fortunately for fans of the expanding brand, a Krispy Kreme representative told inthehammer.com that the city will soon be home to a cafe at 1200 Rymal Rd.
“I can confirm that we are in development on a Theatre Hub location (similar to our shop in Mississauga) on Rymal Road in Hamilton,” Levi Hetrick, chief growth officer and operating partner with Krispy Kreme Canada, said in an email.
Hetrick said that since the company is still in the permitting phase, he can’t yet confirm an official opening date.
That said, he says construction is on track to begin in 2024.
While the Krispy Kreme brand struggled in Canada in the early 2000s following an ambitious roll-out, it has continued to operate a hugely successful cafe in Mississauga and has announced plans to open more stores in the coming months and years.
The Mississauga store, located in the Heartland Town Centre area, is actually the brand’s busiest location, and it produces 48,000 doughnuts a day.
