A “potent” spring ice storm is likely on the way to Toronto this weekend.
After a warm and sunny Thursday, freezing rain is expected to move in late Friday in Toronto and across southern Ontario, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Friday will start out cloudy with rain showers beginning late in the afternoon. Wind gusts up to 40 km/h are expected in the morning, and the high will reach 4 C.
The low will drop down to -1 C in the evening when freezing rain is forecast.
Ice accretion amounts of five to 15 mm are expected with more than 20 mm possible, a special weather statement from Environment Canada stated.
Power outages are possible.
Expect slippery surfaces and possible falling broken tree branches from ice build-up.
The ice storm is expected to start late Friday and continue through to Monday.
