A UK-based chain for Michelin-level doner has chosen Toronto as the city for their first ever locations in North America.
I Am Doner was created by Michelin-trained chef Paul Baron, who wanted to reinvent the classic late night UK kebab. The chain has seven locations in the UK as well as one in Dubai. The Toronto location will be the first not only in Canada, but all of North America.
Their kebabs are made using premium ingredients and are totally customizable, and flatbread is baked fresh every day in store. The best part is, every meal at I Am Doner actually comes with free soft serve ice cream.
The design of the space is intended to reflect British culture, and there should always be a soundtrack of British and Irish music like Britpop, British Invasion, punk, garage and indie pop from bands such as Oasis, The Libertines and The Clash.
I Am Doner has tailored their Toronto location to the surrounding area, researching the city’s food culture for an entire summer. While the menu here is supposed to be adjusted to the tastes of the area, the core of their offers is kebabs and bowls.
The UK menu consists of flatbread wraps, rice bowls, salads and loaded fries. Protein options include classic doner meats, falafel, buttermilk chicken and halloumi.
According to the Canadian social media for I Am Doner, it looks as though their Toronto menu should include options like chicken strips, halloumi fries, sweet potato fries, fried green beans and milkshakes along with their iconic wraps. In true late night kebab fashion, the Toronto location should be open until 2 or 3 a.m. every night.
In addition to this first Toronto location, I Am Doner should also be opening another Toronto location in the future at Yonge Eglinton Centre.
I Am Doner at 433 Queen St. W. is opening soon.
