Diners who have taken a shine to one of Toronto’s most popular and acclaimed Thai restaurants might be thrilled to hear that it’s launching a new cocktail and dessert-oriented hotspot soon.

Koh Lipe, a unique Thai restaurant that earned a spot on the coveted Michelin Guide in 2022 and 2023, recently announced that it plans to open a Thai gelato and cocktail bar in the city’s Little Italy neighbourhood.

A recent Instagram post indicates that Kati, a collaboration between the popular Baldwin Street restaurant and Sweetgotch, a Thai dessert spot, will soon open at 567 College St.

The post suggests the new dessert spot will offer Thai tea, cocktails (including espresso martinis and mojitos), gelato, Thai ice cream and more.

Koh Lipe, named after an island in southern Thailand, has been growing in popularity since it first opened its doors in Baldwin Village five years ago. Located in a bustling stretch of restaurants not far from the AGO, the two-floor resto–which also boasts a lively patio–was recognized by the Michelin Guide as one of few (if not the only) North American restaurants specializing in southern Thai fare.

The restaurant, which recently opened a Scarborough location, offers a few unique dishes, including a coconut green curry beef with plantain and stink bean, a stir-fried dried curry with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, fried egg and a choice of minced chicken or pork, fried mackerel fish topped with coconut curry and some chef’s specials. It also offers Thai iced green tea, pineapple mint smoothies, and more decadent drinks.

An official opening date for Kati has not yet been announced.
