Toronto has seen a rollercoaster of weather this week.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special weather statement for heavy rain starting Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm are expected by Wednesday evening in Toronto.

But the weather is expected to turn overnight with periods of snow and rapidly falling temperatures. Wind gusts from 60 to 80 km/h will reduce visibility in snow and local blowing snow.

A high of 8 C was expected on Wednesday but that will dip down to 1 C Thursday and -5 C Thursday night. Bundle up — with the wind chill it could feel like -9 C on Thursday afternoon.

The snowfall won’t be like what the city experienced a few weeks ago — only two cm of snow is expected on Thursday.

With the blowing snow, there could be reduced visibility. Roads and sidewalks could become icy and slippery.

Environment Canada said winds will intensify Thursday morning before easing by early Thursday evening. Travel may become hazardous beginning Thursday morning.

Strong wind gusts may be capable of tossing loose objects and causing tree branches to break. Power outages are possible.

The good news is that after this blast of winter weather, warmer temperatures are on the horizon for next week. Tuesday could see a high of 10 C and sunny skies.
