Mr. Dressup feature kicks off 11th annual Milton Film Festival Jan. 26

The Milton Film Festival returns to the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton later this month.

The 11^th annual event brings the best of local, Canadian and international films to the audience, this year with more features, short films and guests than ever before from Jan. 26 to 28.

Film buffs can select from several different packages that includes single films, VIP after-parties, multi-film screenings and even a full weekend pass that will give access to all eight feature films, after-party at Marquee Steakhouse, online access to short films as well as extras like a swag bag.

Here are the films featured at this year’s festival.

Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe

Opening night gala allows viewers to take a detailed look at the famed, iconic Canadian television show that impacted multiple generations across its 39 year presence on television and its on-going legacy.

The Old Oak

The future looks bleak for The Old Oak, the last remaining pub in a village of northeast England, where people are leaving the area as the mines are closed. Tensions rise further with the arrival of a group of Syrian refugees.

Richelieu

Newly recruited as a French-to-Spanish translator in a Quebec factory that employs temporary labourers from Guatemala, a young woman takes a stand against the director to defend the migrant workers from the abuse they suffer.

Suze

When her only daughter goes off to university, an empty-nest mother gets stuck taking care of her daughter’s heart-broken ex-boyfriend, who she can’t stand.

Solo

Set in Montreal’s vibrant drag scene, the film follows Simon as he deals with the disappointment of two impossible loves: a passionate but destructive crush on Olivier, and a distant and cold relationship with his estranged mother.

Summer Qamp

This eye-opening and timely documentary follows a diverse group of LGBTQ+ youth at an idyllic lakeside camp in Alberta, where they enjoy a traditional summer camp experience in a safe, affirming environment.

The Beasts

A French couple’s idyllic life in rural Galicia is threatened when they clash with their neighbours, a pair of local brothers who are suspicious of foreigners, in this remarkably tense thriller from Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

Scrapper

This vibrant and inventive father-daughter comedy follows Georgie, a resourceful 12-year-old girl who secretly lives alone in her flat in London following the death of her mother when, out of nowhere, her estranged father Jason arrives and forces her to confront reality.
