Seven luxurious hotels, seven restaurants and three spas in Toronto recently received recognition in the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide, which awarded stars to a number of properties around the world.

Forbes’s list of the 2025 Star Award winners is extensive, covering properties from “the ancient streets of Azerbaijan” to “the rugged terrain of Western Montana.” According to Forbes, the awards celebrate the finest hotels, restaurants, spas, and cruises across 90 countries, and Canada has quite a few spots on the list.

The local hotels that made the cut this year include 1 Hotel Toronto (which has also received a Michelin Key), the Four Seasons Hotel, the Hazelton Hotel, the Park Hyatt, the Ritz-Carlton, the Shangri-La and the St. Regis.

Fun facts: The Hazelton Hotel became Toronto’s first five-star luxury hotel when it opened in 2007 and the St. Regis was initially a Trump Tower when it opened in 2012.

The Hazelton, the Four Seasons and the Park Hyatt are located in the city’s swanky Yorkville neighbourhood, while the 1 Hotel sits in King West Village, about a 20-minute walk from the Ritz-Carlton.

The St. Regis and Shangri-La are in the city’s financial district, while the Ritz is right downtown and close to the entertainment district.

The restaurants that made the list include Café Boulud, Canoe, Joni Restaurant, Louix Louis, One Restaurant, Scaramouche and TOCA Restaurant. While not every restaurant is in a hotel, some of the star recipients occupy properties that were also awarded for their hospitality.

Café Boulud, a popular French brasserie, is in the Four Seasons and Louix Louis, known for its sky-high cake, sits on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel. Joni is located in the Park Hyatt and ONE can be found inside the Hazelton Hotel.

TOCA is in the Ritz-Carlton.

The spas that made the cut are all part of the star-awarded hotels, with The Spa at the Four Seasons, the Spa by Valmont at the Hazelton Hotel and the Spa myBlend at the Ritz-Carlton hitting the list.

The hotels, restaurants and spas were among over 2,000 star recipients.

“Behind every Forbes Travel Guide Star Award lies a thousand small gestures: the concierge who tracks down a hidden café beloved by locals, the chef who sources ingredients from a generations-old farm, the spa therapist who crafts custom aromatherapy blends from native flowers,” Forbes writes.

“From established luxury capitals to emerging destinations, the 2,187 award recipients for 2025 demonstrate that true luxury is not measured in thread counts or square feet, but in moments of genuine connection.”

Other Canadian cities have hotels, restaurants and spas that come highly recommended by the guide. The Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton properties in Montreal made the list, as well as the Auberge Saint-Antoine in Quebec City and the Fairmont Tremblant in Mont Tremblant. The guide also recognized the Muir Hotel in Halifax and a number of properties in Vancouver, including multiple Fairmont establishments.
