Local artists can get paid to come up with a design for new murals at various locations in Burlington, including one that gives a warm welcome.
The annual Local Artist Program encourages artists to submit their designs for three locations in the city that, if chosen, will come with a cash incentive award.
This is a design-only commission as the City of Burlington will be responsible for the fabrication and installation of the work.
Designers can create a new artwork concept for these projects or reformat an existing artwork. Successful artists will need to submit a high-resolution digital file of their artwork concept. Applicants must be a resident of Burlington.
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 16.
Locations include:
- Waterfront Parking Garage, exterior wall at 414 Locust St. This work will replace the large exterior banner facing Lakeshore Road. The artwork will act as a “Welcome to Burlington” sign and will be reproduced on a large-format vinyl banner. The winning design will bring the artist $6,500.
- Waterfront Parking Garage, interior wall at 414 Locust St. A new mural is being commissioned for the interior of the parking garage on the ground floor. The artwork will be reproduced and printed on a vinyl wrap. This design also comes with a $6,500 award.
- Lampman Park, 1691 Lampman Ave. where the mural will be printed on a vinyl wrap that will cover a small water system safety cover box. The artwork must cover all four sides plus the top of the box. This project comes with a $1,000 award.
The artwork is expected to be installed in May of this year.
