A Toronto chef will be part of a new food show coming to Netflix.
The Maverick Academy pits chefs against each other for a chance to become the protege of 3 Michelin star chef Alvin Leung, who’s known for being a judge on MasterChef Canada, his restaurants around the world, and his nickname of “the demon chef.”
He’ll co-host the show along with Toronto chef Eric Chong, who’s known for partnering with Alvin Leung and running award winning restaurant R&D.

It’s not the first time the pair have appeared together on TV. They’ve previously appeared on Wok the World, a culinary documentary centred around rice.
The show should be a return to form for lovers of guilty pleasure reality TV food shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Top Chef, with tough challenges and razor sharp critiques.

Contestants on the show hail from all over the globe, including places like Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar.
The Maverick Academy premieres on Netflix in Asia on Nov. 8. Unfortunately viewers in Canada can’t stream the show on Netflix as of now, and can only do so using a VPN or other workarounds.
